This House of Lords Library briefing provides an analysis of Members’ registered address locations from the January 2016 expenses data and provides an indicative picture of the regional breakdown of the House of Lords. Data is also provided from August 2013 and September 2011 for comparative purposes.

This House of Lords Library briefing provides statistics relating to the regions with which current Members have connections. It does this by presenting information about the regions of Members’ registered addresses, as recorded in the expenses system, and also by looking at regions represented by former MPs and MEPs, members of the devolved legislatures and local councillors. It provides a comparison with data for 2011 and 2013 to give an indication of trends in regional representation.

UK prime ministers may draw up a resignation honours list on their departure from office, in which they may request that the reigning monarch grant honours to any number of people. Such honours may include peerages, knighthoods and damehoods, or other awards. However, not all have chosen to draw up such a list. This briefing lists those prime ministers who have requested that peerages be conferred on their departure from office.
The House of Lords (Peerage Nominations) Bill [HL] is a private member’s bill sponsored by Lord Norton of Louth (Conservative). The bill seeks to strengthen the House of Lords Appointments Commission.
