This paper examines the background to recent political instability in the country, which has included the arrest and detention of former Vice-President Ahmed Adeeb in connection with an alleged assassination attempt on President Abdulla Yameen. Moreover, the paper examines the sentencing of former-President Mohammed Nasheed to thirteen years in jail in March 2015.
