As at 8 September 2015, the size of the “actual membership” of the House (those currently able to attend) was 775. This included 664 life Peers, 86 excepted hereditary Peers, and 25 Lords Spiritual. The “absolute membership” of the House (which includes those currently excluded from sitting, such as those on leave of absence) was 817. These figures do not include the 45 new Members announced on 27 August 2015, or the three excepted hereditary Peers due to be replaced un the House’s by-election system. The average daily attendance of the House of Lords in the 2014-15 session was 483. To date, 35 Members of the House of Lords have retired under the provision of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014 or, prior to this, through the voluntary retirement scheme adopted by the House of Lords in 2011.
